Nutrisystem Case Study

The Nutrisystem Diet is an eating plan developed primarily as a weight loss plan. They provide planned meals to help with weight loss and maintenance, as well as nutrition. They offer these services via telephone, internet, and other mobile devices. Although there isn’t much long term evidence that this diet promotes weight loss, at three months it resulted in 3.8% more weight loss than a control group. This diet does target an appropriate weight, set realistic goals, and is highly customizeable, although it is not perfectly personalized to every individual. The diet does not require a journal, as all of the calculations are done by Nutrisystem, but using one is encouraged. The diet doesn’t evaluate your progress, although there is a support system of trained professionals to answer your questions and make recommendations. One of the selling points of Nutrisystem is it’s convenience. You don’t have to count calories, carbs, portion sizes, or anything else. Food from a selection of over 150 meals is mailed straight to your door. Separate plans are offered for men and women. Approximately 52%, 26%, and 22% of calories …show more content…
As said on webmd.com, “Dieters may only experience success while they are ordering the prepackaged foods because once they are on their own, they are faced with the real world of cooking, meal preparation, and issues they are not prepared to handle because they were not addressed on the plan." In response, Nutrisystem released a series of “transition” plans designed to combat this very issue. There has also been some other controversy surrounding the company. In 2014, Nutrisystem was accused of stealing a rival 's diet mobile
