Have you ever been discriminated against for your own good? Well I and millions of Americans adults that are under the age of 21 have been. There was a bill that was passed by congress called The National Drinking Age Act of 1984. This bullied any state that does not prohibit and single out adults under the age of 21 from buying or possessing alcoholic beverages. In spite of this, many people believe that it is justified because “child’s brain is very sensitive to alcohol” In other words, it is ok to discriminate against a particular group if it is for their own good, instead of it being that discriminating for any reason is wrong. According to the U.S Department Of Justice, Bureau Of Justice Statistics “family violence cost the nation from $5 to $10 billion annually in medical expenses, police and court cost, shelters and foster care, sick leave, absenteeism, and non-productivity” and that “on average, more then three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriend in this country every year” In short even though marriage gets people killed, cost us billions of dollars and destroys lives we still allow marriage by the age of 18 because that is the age we as Americans consider to be old enough to handle the responsibility of our actions weather it is about marring someone or drinking alcohol.
Furthermore, if people trust someone enough to allow them to vote for their representative and their next president, certainly people can trust them to buy alcohol. The president of the united state may as well be the most powerful person on planet earth, He may not be able to declare war on other countries due to the governments check and balance but being a commander in chief of the largest military in the world is already the scariest and most lethal job there is. This is why it does not make any sense to trust adults under the age of 21 to vote yet have the audacity to tell them not to be buying or possessing alcohol. For example this is like having someone whose parent trusts them to babysit an infant but not trust them enough to take care of themselves.
