All the people in France were divided into three social groups better known as estates. The first estate consisted of the pope and bishops (the clergy). After he overthrew the directory he created the consulate, naming himself first consul. He then worked on strengthening the government for 5 years and named himself emperor of France. Napoleon was very known for creating the Napoleonic code, a set of laws that allowed freedom of religion and encouraged emigres to return. He also annexed to his empire, the Netherlands, Belgium, and parts of Italy and Germany. Although his power came to an end when Russia defeated his army ending the French Revolution.

At first I found myself at the Estates General meeting. When members of the National assembly were locked out and pledged to do everything possible to create a new constitution. The first violent act was the Storming of the Bastille followed by the March of Versaille when they demanded the king to ignore their suffering and leave to Paris. After all the chaos and revolts the National Assembly took some action and created the Declaration of Rights of Men. King Louis was later convicted as a traitor and executed. That’s when the Committee of Public safety took Charge with Robespierre in charge killing about 17,000 people, during a period known as The Reign of Terror, although he was also later executed.
