Education should always be striving for a more just, more hopeful and more curious world.

Education is fuel for the fire of positive change...
Education serves as a way to pass shared history, knowledge and values from one generation to the next. In my opinion, education should be accessible, equitable, transparent and honest. The role of school in the life of a child should be one that encourages and empowers while also facilitating and ensuring the acquisition of knowledge and understanding needed to participate fully in and succeed in the wider world. Education has the power to maintain a society as well as to change it.

When teachers are teaching and students are learning, mandated standards can be met and exceeded. The only true measure of the effectiveness of a teaching strategy is that of student learning – I am not teaching unless my students are learning.

Individual students learn differently; a classroom filled with diverse modes of instruction and assessment provides opportunity for all students to experience the types of teaching and learning that are most effective for them. Teaching and learning are as much about this process as they are about the content of a curriculum.

I expect all of my students to be high achievers. This goal of high achievement looks different for each child, however. My goal is that the classroom becomes a community of mutual respect and love for learning. Students will all be expected to meet state curriculum framework requirements, with the chance for agency in their own education and backed by the belief by all members of the classroom community that this goal is possible. Success is determined overwhelmingly by effort and engagement. I expect students to come prepared to class, to participate fully in their learning and to stay motivated.
