My Personal Values

As humans, we all have our own unique set of values and beliefs that have been developed through the course of our lives. Our values are the foundation upon which we make decisions. They determine who we are and what path we take in life. Despite this, many of us do not choose our values; we simply adopt the values of others. Our parents, friends, colleges and the dominant values of society all influence the development of our own set of values and beliefs.
Being kind and courteous and showing compassion for those in need, is a value I highly regard. I believe that my family has had the largest influence on this value. They treat me with affection and encourage me to treat others with that same respect and kindness. We share personal characteristics,

I spend a great deal of time with my friends and I see them every day at school. Constantly being around my friends has subconsciously forced me to pick up on their behaviours and mannerisms. We share interests and this leads to doing what they do and acting the way they do. I believe that I have the type of friends that impact positively on who I am. I am extremely lucky that my friends have strong, robust values and do not influence negatively on the development of my values.
In my Mission Statement I mention that I will ‘remain loyal to my faith’. My main spiritual influence comes from my grandmother, my RE teacher and the ethos of my school. I am privileged to go to a school that stands firmly in the Catholic belief. Although I am not Catholic myself, I feel that my school and my teachers help to develop my Christian faith and faith in God. I believe that my faith will guide me in the future and help me to become a better person.
For the common good of society and those around me, I have the goal to be respectful and grateful. Also I believe that it is important to give back. It can be giving back to the community or giving back in a relationship. These goals are ideas that my family and school believe are vital. I have adopted these as my own personal goals that I strive
