Reflective Essay: A Career As An Effective Leader

Each individual defines “leadership” the way he or she best sees fit. However, the main concept is the same. Multiple ideas and definitions come to my mind when I hear the word “leadership.” For instance, leadership consists of being a role model for others and being someone that others can go to due to the qualities this person possesses. A leader is a team player, displays a positive attitude when working with others, possesses great communication skills, and is prepared. I feel that these qualities are essential for a leader to possess. Additionally, leadership also consists of the relationship between the leader and his or her colleagues. Having a positive relationship with colleagues will expound one’s experience as a leader since the colleagues will establish a sense of trust. Thus, the colleagues will feel more comfortable under the care of this particular leader. This essay will entail on how my leadership style has changed over the semester, how I have integrated what I learned in class into the RA position and in the community of Trinity, specific skills I gained as an RA that will contribute to my field of study, and where I hope the journey of leadership will take me. However, I do not want my leadership journey to end with me just being an RA. This summer, I want to be a Conference Assistant (CA).
