Personal Narrative: My Experience With Soccer

Great Essays
Ever since the day I was born in 1997, I have been around the game of soccer. My older 4 brothers played soccer and my parents took me to a game on day three of my existence. My father has played soccer since he was a young boy and that is who introduced my siblings and me to the sport. My brothers and I would always play soccer in our backyard when I was young as well as today. When my oldest brother turned nine, he was old enough to play soccer on a recreational team. He continued to play with this recreational team until he was 18. He loved the sport and the teams on which he played. His excitement for the sport rubbed off on me and my other siblings. Each of us looked forward to turning nine years old specifically for this reason. Even though my experience with …show more content…
Once again, I was playing on a recreational team but this time I was playing in the midfield position. Prior to this I played as a defender. We were on our fifth game of the season and our team was undefeated so far. This game would be against the Hobe Sound team. They are a very aggressive team but I had confidence that if my team played hard and persevered we would beat them. Half way through the game the score was tied 1-1. It was half time and my coach, my team, and I were giving constructive criticism about the game. All too soon, the ref blew his whistle for the game to recommence and we took our positions on the field. My team had the ball and one of my teammates kicked it to another teammate to begin the game. Soon enough, the ball was passed to me and I began to make my way down the field to the goal. I set my sights on the net and my foot collided with the ball. The ball sored through the air right over the goal. I scolded myself as I walked back to my position on the field ready to try again. This occurred about five times during the entire game and each time I would lose a little more hope that I would make a

I have to be able to place a pass right on the foot of a teammate to set up a goal. That day was no different from any other. As my foot made contact with that beautiful, glossy soccer ball for the first time that day, it seemed to know that it had no choice but to obey my direction as it subserviently rolled to its destination. Suddenly out of nowhere, a bone-jarring blow from behind left my body limp and lifeless on the field. I lay there in a dreamlike state for what seemed like an eternity before mustering enough strength to get myself to my feet again.…

Throughout my short life journey, soccer has been an enormous part of my life. I began playing soccer at a young age; this is the point in my life when I fell in love with the sport. As I grew older soccer became less of a hobby, and more of a lifestyle. Today, I am literate in the sport of soccer, because I have proficient skills, and a firm understanding of the game. I consider myself very soccer savvy, however the most important literacies I have acquired from soccer were the life skills of hard work, dedication and perseverance.…

The roar of the engine sends my heart racing as I pull out on to the track, one lap around and we are off, trucks at my side as we glide around the turns. The slick dirt pulling my back end around I move my hands, my automatic controls, the only thing keeping me from spinning out. It’s funny really because clichés aren’t my thing, however, at times idioms are just the thing to describe a situation or time period in one’s life, for instance the saying that “life is a roller coaster” couldn’t be more fitting for my life. The ups and downs, the highs and the lows, the twists and turns, life is just one big adrenaline rush and at times I feel I’m a junking, addicted to life.…

I never thought there would be a day that I could not play soccer again until April 14th, 2016. Ever since I was three, I lived with a ball at my feet and fell deeper and deeper in love with the sport. I played on 3 to 4 soccer teams at a time and dreamed of going on to play professionally when I got out of highschool. That all changed with one doctor’s appointment. I had been experiencing pain in my hip…

“Hi Malcolm, I’m Coach Spear, and I’d like you to consider playing soccer at Davidson.” I had played the “beautiful” game of soccer for as long as I could remember, starting in an organized league at the age of three to be exact. An invitation to play as a team member in a highly regarded college soccer program was the culmination of hundreds of league games, dozens of travel tournaments, and too many practices to count. The idea of attending such a prestigious college and having the opportunity to continue to play soccer is a personal accomplishment was very exciting to me. Soccer may have opened a door, but I believe that several interests in addition to soccer, combined with the educational opportunities that Davidson has to offer, will help me open many doors throughout life, shaping a personal identity that will be unique among many.…

Soccer had became my drug and each day I was more and more addicted to playing and creating memories with my soccer family. Consequently, when there is good there will always be bad. My team started losing one game after the other, my teammates where suffering from injuries, and other’s where being prohibited to play due to bad grades. On the night of our last game against Westview, we all had hoped that the eleven of the remaining eligible players, no substitutes, could have taken the win. However, a hurricane of hungry soccer players whipped us off our feet and buried our drained bodies in their own soil.…
