Register to read the introduction… It’s not like the only type of dancing I do is formal. To me, it really does not matter where I am or whom I am with, as long as I am into the music, I will get up and dance. Whether I am at a formal dance (PROM), a party, or even a club, I make sure that I get my share of dancing done. All there is to it is feeling the beat of the music and moving your body. I suppose it just comes natural to me since I’ve been dancing my whole

European dances/dance rituals changed from pagan dance to early Christian forms by the christians going into europe to spread their religion with others, when they saw the locals’ dances and thought it was cool. So they inquired them into their church, however, they changed some of the parts because it was to sexual for them and the church. Social dance has changed for the 1800’s to the 20’s because the younger generation of the time wanted to be less stiff and closer to their partner, which was considered very sexual at that time. In the 50’s Elvis Presley and his pelvis action was the spark that lead to dancing alone was okay. In the 60’s groups of people would gather in one place, where they would dance by themselves, which was normal but…

The way this dance was, you had to enter the ballroom floor with a specific way of stepping to the beat using your heels, but also like ice skating in a way. Dancing wasn’t as easy as it is now, well for some people. Some other types of dances were Jigs and reels, which as I mentioned before enslaved people and lower class white people would use these methods of dancing, but so did the Virginians. When you would dance “Jigs” it required to only dance with one person and partner, for the “Reels” you could have as much as six people dancing. When it came to teaching and learning the dance, it wasn’t as easy as it seemed.…

The school auditorium is filled with proud parents and the glow of several hundred screens poised to capture the moment their precious stars take the stage. The music starts and a dozen little girls and boys start twirling and craning their necks to watch their dance instructor coach them from the wings. Most of their parents aren't concerned with the dance training their children are receiving. A friend of a friend told them about "Dolly Dinkle's Dance Academy" and so they signed little Susie up,bought her a pink leotard, and told her to have fun at dance class. However, "Dolly Dinkle" is not a qualified dance instructor.…

People are shaped by their surroundings. These influences come in the form of anything from elementary school teachers to religious awakenings, from mission trips to news articles. For me, these influences come in the form of dance, God, and opportunity. Unexpectedly, dance has made a major impact on who I am. Though I started at age three, I've been dancing at a Vaganova-style ballet academy for seven years.…

Simply put, I love dancing. I like moving my hips to the beat, feeling the rhythm inside my body like an electrical surge, enjoying every second of the music. Years have passed since I first started dancing, but I still have the same enthusiasm as if I am performing for the very first time whenever I hear a song that I danced to. Yet, dancing can be exceptionally intimidating and challenging, so much that I question my rationality at times.…

The intense lights, colorful costumes, and ribboned pointe shoes decorated the stage. As the lively music played for those dancing in the spotlight, I waited in the wings, nerves jumping in my stomach. Every little movement would be seen from the peering eyes of the audience. Preparation for this role was packed into a few weeks, and both the honor of earning this part and the pressure of performing well accumulated on my shoulders. Originally, I had an ensemble part with the rest of my dance class, only understudying for role of Autumn, one of the four soloist positions offered in Milwaukee Ballet School’s Spring Showcase, Snow White.…

As stated before in our first lecture, dance is a living and fleeting art form. I believe that dance is a living art form because it is a three-dimensional picture to art. What I mean by this is that, art is normally seen on walls or as sculptures, but dance is an amazing opportunity to view art while in movement. If you are anything like me, when I look at a painting of two people or many, I always wonder what it would be like to see them actually dancing, singing, or even laughing. By watching dance, it is my living art form.…

Dance is defined by Howard Nadel and Raymond Strauss of The Dance Experience as “a purposeful human endeavor that involves components that can be universally observed even when appearing in widely varying forms” (121). Most people perceive dance only as a form of entertainment. Not only is dancing enjoyable, it is a means of physical activity which requires certain skill sets and can be labeled as a sport. I believe that dance encompasses all the requirements other sports have and therefore should be labeled a sport. Dancers go through the same physical endurance, strengthen exercises, sweat, and pain like any other sport.…

One of the most incredible video that I watched to complete a Dance Observation assignment for Dance class is the video of: “Wade in the Water from “Revelations” by Alvin Ailey Company. This video was published on YouTube on November 25, 2007 and performed at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. This video is very beautiful and impressive at the first time I saw it. Then I keep watching it again to really focus on the detail of very movement and sections. The dancers presented a movement of an African American slavery era being empowered by drowned in the water but keep standing strong tightly.…
