Music is powerful in many aspects. It helps people to learn new things in this multicultural society. Also, music teaches about justice and injustice of the society, social problems as an individualist and collectivist perception, and it inspires people to broaden their creativity. In fact, music stimulated an individual cognitive development. I believed that music has the potential to influence and heal a person 's well being by enhancing the person’s mood.
There are many reasons for me to choose these two songs. One, I had personally experienced with domestic violence which lead me to this person I become. Second, I had helped many people with the same situation that I had when I was a kid. Third, I strongly believe that domestic violence

Shears, “Tears in your eyes”, expresses a relationship between two people with three different perceptions. In verse one, “My boyfriend never listens, even when I said no. His castle is my prison; I wear a crown of thorns and a satin robe of denial to survive the storms”, Denise expressed and contradicted her relationship with Mike convincing herself that she loves him. Denise felt that she is the luckiest person to be with him, like a queen of the castle; however, he constantly abused her and making her feel like a prisoner. Also, she believed that she is the cause of something gone wrong. The song is relevant to the social problems that are happening in today 's society. Some people are in an abusive relationship but are in denial. There are so many reasons people are in denial. First, people felt embarrassed that they are in this situation. Secondly, people are not educated enough to find the correct resources for themselves. Lastly, people are afraid because the abuser had isolated their partner from the world for so long that they have no where to go. Overall, victims of abuse are commonly blamed for choosing to stay with the relations because of economic dependency, emotional attachment to the abuser, commitment to the relationship, guilt, fear, and hope things will change for the better if he/she stayed. Some victims believed that they deserved the abuse. The song I chose expressed physical assault and mentally abused victim. The same issue that I once encountered in my family during my childhood. Violence and abused in intimate and family relationships happen in four types of violence. One, common couple violence that involves in arguments which “get out of hand”, escalate into a fight but not life threatening. Second, intimate terrorism that involves with controlling one’s partner such as economic subordination, threats, and isolation, verbal and emotional abuse. Third, violent resistance refers to violence that deals with self-defense, usually

People need to recognize the reasons why women would ever stay with the abusive partner weather he be her boyfriend, fiancé, or husband. The World Health Organization evidence suggests that women who are abused women adopt strategies to take full advantage of their desperate situation and for their safety of them and their children. Heise and colleagues (1999) suggest that if a woman is inactive to leave it may be a deliberate calculation to protect her children and also herself. Some of their reasons why a woman would not leave the violent relationship is because of her fear that her partner out of anger, would retaliate against her in a violent matter for example finding her and assaulting her for leaving him. Most predatory partners that abuse their partners also control all the finances and will not let their partners get a job which blocks any means of escape economically.…

After finding out his now-ex girlfriend has been unfaithful, he portrays diligence to harass her by narrating his plan of action for revenge in the lyrics, “I’m gonna aim my headlights into your bedroom windows, throw empty beer cans at both of your shadows”. Thus, implying the desensitization of society into perceiving violent portrayals in breakups are of the norm. The binary in this song is that due to his girlfriend cheating he is obligated to act violently to shame the woman, to which he justifies his actions in the lyrics, “You know you broke the wrong heart, baby, you drove me redneck crazy.” His motives are excused supposedly due to his broken heart and plays ‘victim’, where as the real victim is left oppressed. Statistically, women are much more likely to be the target of stalking threats (ARS, 2010), this is reinforced by the ominous lyric, “I’m the kind of guy that shows up at your house at 3a.m.”…
