Racism In The Film: Mississippi Burning

Register to read the introduction… This is a very touching movie that shows how bad racism was and could be. The movie Mississippi Burning is based on a true story. The movie debuted in 1988 and it takes place down in Mississippi down in 1964 when 3 civil rights activist were reported missing and later found out to have been murdered. It was two white men and a black man who was riding in a truck minding their own business and was chased down by a group of white men. They charge them with civil rights violations to ensure they will be tried at a federal level. Four of the men had been convicted in a state court of firebombing a black man's home previously, only to receive five year suspended sentences. Most of the men were found guilty and receive sentences from three to ten years. The sheriff was acquitted. The mayor who was not charged with anything hung himself in his own home. Social science just tries to give an explanation to why racism exists. They say it’s a “myth, fabrication of the human mind.” Myth number one is the idea that any race is superior to others. The second myth is that “pure” races exist. It is said that there are no pure races. I also know that there are no superior races. Things like this tend to stick because people teach their children who teach their children; a continuous cycle. In the future I don’t think that racism will still exist. Although the ways and time of racism has changed it still exists everywhere. A lot of people are against it you even have interracial couples and everything. There is always going to be some people who think that their race is superior to all the other races. People who tend to grow up in racist backgrounds tend to have the same thoughts as the people in their
