“Midlife crisis”. This is a word that has been thrown around so frequently, as if to explain why a person acts a certain way after 40. So much, in fact, that it has been turned into a stereotype for middle-aged people. “Oh, let him be, he’s having midlife crisis.” It’s true, the physical and psychological changes of age 40+ can wreak emotional havoc for many. But does it really have to be a “crisis” instead of a mere phase?
Furthermore, the word “midlife crisis” has turned into a crutch. It’s as if the word can excuse why all our thoughts and our priorities, all our plans and goals, all our ideas and beliefs are thrown into disarray.
