During middle childhood, children make great steps regarding their ability to recognize emotions in themselves as well as other people, control their own emotions, and communicate about emotions, both expressively and with language.
At this time, most children started making sense of recognizing emotional behaviors present in interpersonal situations. As soon as they start to notice other people's emotional behaviors (e.g. seeing someone cry and laugh at the same time), they begin to appreciate the reality of mixed and complex emotions. They also start to adapt these emotions. If they see a person laughing, they also try to laugh like that person. If a person is sad and she is in a bad mood then a child of middle age also try to adapt that mood or face expression when a child will be in a bad mood.
