“When insatiable desire inflames you for a girl who’s out of fashion.” This woman may be plain, however in the eyes of that man she is the most beautiful human being that he has ever laid his eyes. “Lacking in glamour-plain, in fact- that fire is genuine; that’s the authentic passion." The poem essentially says that if a man falls in love with a woman who is plain, then she is the most beautiful women in the world. The battle that has taken place here is a reference to the battle that had been fought between David and Goliath. “Tell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of Askelon, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.” Let the daughters rejoice that the war is over, but weep for the soldiers who have been slain in battle.
