The Comeback Kid: A Legendary NFL

When compiling a list of the all-time great quarterbacks in the National Football League one may mention names such as Joe Montana, Dan Morino, Peyton Manning, John Elway, or Otto Graham. Due to the controversy surrounding his team and his play in the past decade some may decide to leave a name off of this list. This name is Tom Brady. While it is certainly reasonable to question his spot in history because of this controversy, what is undeniable is Brady’s remarkable skills at the quarterback position. To many these skills would include arm strength, accuracy, and athleticism. However, as a lifelong Patriots fan, I can confidently say The Comeback Kid’s abilities span far beyond these simple measurables. Tom Brady is a legendary NFL quarterback …show more content…
When discussing the greatest competitors in NFL history the name that resonates above all is New England’s very own, Tom Brady. Number twelve has been competing for a spot on the field ever since his days at the University of Michigan. For two years Brady worked his way up a dense depth chart. When he was afforded the chance the future superstar took advantage of his opportunity. When talking about earning the starting spot during his Junior season Brady is quoted stating, “Looking back, that was the turning point in my football career” (Rust). Even after a solid Junior campaign, going into his Senior year he was initially benched behind an up-and-coming Sophomore quarterback who showed solid potential. This set back would not hinder the future legend’s competitive nature. After substituting in to lead the Wolverines to several late game comebacks Brady finally earned the starting spot. He would then go on to help his team win the coveted Orange Bowl in yet another late game triumph. However, his success late in the season was not …show more content…
He not only made a name for himself as an exceptionally gifted athlete, but as a trouble maker. This was extremely apparent during the middle of his career while playing with the Oakland Raiders. In his San Jose Mercury news article on Moss, Daniel Brown sums up the end of the receiver’s tenure in Oakland by stating, “…by then Moss ' performance in Oakland had been so appalling that few teams were interested in talking trade” (Brown). This all changed when Moss arrived in New England. With the help of the league’s best quarterback Moss was able to break the single-season touchdown reception record, and help the Patriots to the National Football League’s first ever 16-0 season. Not only was Tom Brady able to establish the career of an unknown, undersized 5-foot-9 wide out, but he was able to resurrect what looked like a wasted career for one of the league’s very best. The ability to single-handedly make his team better makes Brady one of the greats, but what truly sets him apart from the others is how long he has been able to sustain his

With his ability to throw the ball downfield, accurate on his throws, calm in the pocket, and the ability to run with the ball when pressure comes or no wide receivers are open, no wonder why San Francisco paid him so much. In the last year of his 4 year rookie deal, Garoppolo who was still in New England at the time was asking for a big payday and a starting job. With Tom Brady planning to play for a few more years, after looking at how much he is getting paid, the Patriots did the right thing by trading him for a second round pick rather than let him walk in free agency and get nothing back for him.…
