Critical analysis of “Badgerette Showcase”
I attended the dance concert called “Badgerette Showcase” on March 3, 2016 at 7:30 PM in Horne Activity Center. This concert consisted of 21 unique performances performed by a lot of Utah schools, dance groups and cheerleaders. I picked 4 performances that I liked the best and I am going to be writing about them. Before the show started, the coach introduced all Badgerettes that are in the team this year and that were performing that night.
First performance that I really liked is called “Get It” by Badgerettes. It is choreographed by Chalyn Dye. It started with about 15 girls in the middle of the podium. In the rhythm of the music they spread around using the space pretty well. Footwork and arm waving was used and went with the music. I don’t think the name of the dance “Get It” meant anything. It was just a name of the song, and also it

It was choreographed by Brooke Cherry. Dancers, ages around 9 10, were wearing blue dresses with white polkadots and as a prompt everyone had a broom. At the beginning one by one started popping out and standing up as they were all down on the floor before the music started. Movement was very synchronized which means that all girls were doing the same thing. The name of the dance “Dear Future Husband” was the name of the song used for this performance. Lighting didn’t have any effect to the performance, as said in the previous part. Choreographer made this dance look really fun, and appropriate for little girls that were dancing it. They were in no way shape or form professionals, but getting there. I liked the dance because the song they were dancing to has a strong message about what a girl deserves and how a man should be treating her. Even though it was a sloppy dance, those girls were

All of the performers would be considered amateurs in the dance discipline, most having only a year of dance experience from their public high school. This dance was a sassy, slower performance; using the dancers long lines to appear as a sexier routine. To make the dance more appealing numerous lifts were added and the technique of fall and recover was a common technique. The dance as a whole was a good attempt of having inexperienced dancers performing rather simple…

I highly enjoyed Kyra Selman cabaret show at Rockwell. She did an amazing job telling a story in a musical genre. Songs that really stood out are I am what I am, Drunken Love, and Black Girl Medley. The reason those songs stood out because most likely they are songs I have heard already, while majority of the other songs in Kyra cabaret I did not recognize and can not give a name. I enjoyed the whole show but the areas where I know the songs help me remember the story.…

When a performer was singing, there was a good chance they were dancing as well. The two interplayed throughout this performance. Dorothy at one point in the show did the “Nae Nae” and “Hit the Quan,” two urban style dances that were created by African Americans. In addition, the acrobatic stunts by Cirque du Soleil added a twist to the show. The dance performed by the poppy flowers was another performance that did not take place in the original…

The tempo was medium/slow and the style was Latin/Salsa. The song included a cha cha beat, an improvised solo by Peter, who was scat singing, and a drum solo. This song was pretty fun, not only was the tempo upbeat but the audience also played a part in the performance by adding in syncopation. The last song Richland High played is called Love Makes the World go Round by The Ritz. The tempo was a medium/slow and there was numerous solos.…

The bottoms are loose black shorts that match perfectly with the top. They all were wearing pantyhose and white tennis. All the cheerleaders combed their hair with the same style, and they were wearing the same make-up, my guess is that those choices were made in order to give to this group a kind of uniformity and cohesion among the members. Finally they have two pom poms, one on each hand, the pom poms were silver and maroon which matched also with the uniform. The choreography was performed in a repetition of hands up, hands down, both hands to the side, then each hand move to each side.…

This step by step dance is called the Quadrilha and is led by someone yelling out the commands. The story line is that the bride and groom lead the couples to their wedding reception by doing the dance. The bride and groom start the dance by creating a circle and having all the partners follow. The leader sets the scene and says commands like “It just started to rain” in which all the guys would put their hands above their partner’s heads. Once the leader says “The rain is gone” then everyone jumps around and starts to walk in the other direction of the circle.…

Standing there waiting for the music to come on the judges were staring at us like they was hawks trying to find them food. During that week we learned it they told us we needed to us our man voices and to be so sharp. 5,6,7,8, the cheer was called.…

To start off, when you first start to watch the video, the cameraman focuses specifically on four young dancers. These four young women are wearing white tutus, point-shoes, and white feathered headpieces. As the video plays on the dancers move along with the slow, then fast, back to slow, and then right back to fast, beats of the music. The dancers are very focused on each and every step to make sure they are in sync with one another. The movements the dancers make are smooth, repetitive for a limited time, then on to the next movement, and are connected.…

There was an awesome african piece that started of with a young lady giving words of wisdom and were dressed in colorful traditional african costumes. This piece put me in mind of an initiation ceremony because of how the girls were brought out covered and was eventually revealed . Once revealed each dancer was brought towards the front to perform a specific dance this dance was a combination of hand movements and ending with bowing down. After the initiation everyone joined the stage together and performed an african tribute with a combination of fast and slow movements, jumping and singing. The music was perfect for the performance and the lighting made the women costumes colors and patterns pop out.…

My mood was jubilant that day because I was glad I came to that performance instead of staying home. I would have felt home sick with all that final review so it was pleasant and peaceful having entertainment for such a low cost but great performance. The movements I identified were a lot of the terms I went over in dance class from degage to grand battement, the list goes all over. The name of the performance should be called “The Art of Adventure” and it should be divided into subgenres which focuses on the main theme adventure. Adventure can be dim or bright but they always seem to have a long lasting well produced ending.…
