People question if everyone is still equal if marriage is defined as between a man and a woman. This severely restricts the rights of the homosexual population. The U.S.C. code defines marriage as “…only a legal union between one man and one woman…” (U.S.C., 2011). So the Lesbian Bi-Sexual Gay & Trans (LGBT) movement has been protesting for the redefining of gay marriage; which is redefining marriage so that it does not denote strictly that only a man and woman can be married, but rather a marriage could be between a woman and woman or man and man. So if you identify as LGBT you are able to vote, own a home, pay taxes, and all other civil liberties except for marriage and the benefit that are derived from being legally married. On June 26, 2013 The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) cleared the way for same-sex married couple to receive federal benefits (ALITO J. 2013). Basically SCOTUS does not have the power to fully ratify this sort of thing, so ultimately it is up to the individual states to amend laws to edit the definition of marriage: to redefine it. Public opinion has also be on the rise for the support of gay marriage. They are protesting on a false claim. One that they believe brings them equality when in fact they are protesting to the very same institution for change that has to make decisions in their best interest. Marriage as defined between one man and one woman is beneficial to the entirety of society. This comes with perks because it is for the necessity of continuing the human race and making sure that the young are brought up in a manner that is befitting to continue to be productive towards society. Even though all people are created equal, marriage should be between one man and one woman because it further develops our population and aids in the development of our
