The Important Role Of Literacy Essay

I worked at McDonalds for a year and half, which exposed us employees to very distinct and abstract languages; nothing like the English language. There were days when customers came in to be serviced and they had to use a notepad in order to interact with me. Also, there were instances when customers came in and they were not able to hear, so I had to use my hands and body language in order to interact with them. When exposed to such conditions, it leads a person to have certain feelings toward literacy; one comes to the conclusion that literacy is important in society because it has both positive and negatives impacts on their participation in the world.

Without the people, the candidates are nothing. Literacy places a large role in both the people and the candidates lives. The candidates use literacy by advertising themselves on TV, social media, or even broadcasting their interviews on television. By doing so, the candidate is able to gain feedback on his/her ideas and see who is actually supporting their ideas. The people give the candidates the power through voting, sharing their ideas on social media, and by going to the presidential debates to support whomever.
Literacy is power, no matter what form it is in. It could be in the form of a song, a newsletter, a painting, or even a post about a topic on social media. It is one of the most powerful weapons that can change the world. There are many people in the world who know how to read and write, but, there are some who do not. Next time, give someone a helping hand. Let them know that literacy is not solely voiced through and writing, and that it is the key that can unlock many
