Peter F. Drucker, in his new book, Management Challenges for the 21st Century, gives a rather different opinion and set of ideals for both organizations and individuals that aim for success. He analyzes the tasks that will be a significant problem for society and business. He also describes how changing an organization’s overall structure or refining an individual knowledge worker may help deal with those tasks. Drucker also had the idea that there is only one correct organizational structure designed for any given circumstance. There are many points that concern the major expectations, new certainties and changing being a norm. Drucker thinks organizations and the individual knowledge workers must take action and make changes accordingly to live. Drucker’s beliefs orbit around seeing things in a different light, progressive methods, and always evolving to be ready for the future. “they are now so far removed from actual reality that they are becoming obstacles to the Theory and even more serious obstacles to the Practice of Management. Indeed, reality is fast becoming the very opposite of what these assumptions claim it to be.” Therefore, Drucker believes the 7 expectations are considered obsolete and 8 new assumptions are needed for the 21st century. The new assumptions are vital for assessing the roles of individuals and management in all organizations. If organizations or individuals were to continue with the old assumptions, they would see a drop-off in success. It’s like how writing letters can’t compete with a phone call.
