Understanding of multiplication facts is essential to have down by fourth grade. Knowing the times tables and being able to fluently recall immediately is needed throughout the entire year because of PA Mathematics Standards beginning with multiplication of multidigit numbers. There were students in my fourth grade classroom that had yet to be fluent with their multiplication facts, and it was necessary for them to have it down, for everyday mathematics and for the PSSA’s. I discussed with my mentor teacher which students would benefit most from remediation and reviewing the multiplication facts again. I selected five students based on their standings of Rocket Math, a one minute assessment to see how many multiplication facts they can solve

We used different colored construction paper, and allowed for them to decide how they wanted to organize their cards, whether they were all one color, or each set would be different colors. From reviewing their pre-assessment data I realized they were all proficient with the zero’s one’s and two’s. We focussed on the threes through eights because it was what they were all working with and they were really good with their nines already. We created the flashcards, the students were able to raise their hand if they did not know an answer to a multiplication fact, normally questions came from the sixes through eights because they are the most challenging. We then reviewed each multiplication fact, making sure we had all our facts correct on our cards. Once everyone had all the correct products written, I informed them that about the activities planned for the next day, and praised them for their good work, and behavior during our …show more content…
Each student was given the worksheet based on the level they were on during class, or as discussed with my mentor teacher. The students were given one minute to complete as many of the multiplication facts correctly, exactly to how their pre-assessment was given. Once the students completed their one minute assessment, they were given a self-assessment rating scale, to self-evaluate and reflect on the activities and assessments and how they assisted in their continual learning of multiplication
