Higher Order thinking is also known as critical thinking. It is when children have learnt to be creative, innovative, and evaluative (Byrnes, 2001, Read Write Think, 2018). In order to do this children are learning to:
• Analysing (distinguish fact from fiction by gathering information and taking it apart)
• Synthesizing (putting information together) and creative generation
• Evaluating (judging the outcome)
• Solving problems (hypothesing and trying ideas outs, and experimenting)
• Commenting clearly (expressing their ideas, thoughts, and findings)
For example: Children learn how to question why something occurred, how it occurred, and/or how it can occur differently.
