The week of my internship was the most crucial and decisive week in my path to accomplishing my career that defined what the next few years of my life were going to be like. Important aspects about me professionally and personally are that I am in the mist of pursuing my Bachelors of Arts in Applied Psychology and minor in Spanish at the Pennsylvania State University, Berks Campus. For quite some time, my interest resided on working with children who have experience with or experienced developmental disorders, abuse, and other traumas.

My duty as a Small Group Helper was to assist in all daily group activities pertaining to my assigned age group which was 3rd and 4th graders. Also, lead in discussions during activities such as art, music, and physical education. During Camp Noah, I volunteered to be one of the three puppeteers. In the puppet shows, it was my responsibility to share the wise words of the day and tell a story that the children could learn from. In addition, I accomplished my learning goal for Penn State Berks Camp Noah, which was whether or not my interest lies within child trauma.
On another note, natural disasters can disrupt a child’s life in many ways. The buildings of a child’s home or school can be damaged or destroyed. A child may lose access to electricity or clean water. Children may lose friends or family members or see disturbing images around their home or on the television; their routine may be disrupted. Media coverage and rumors are important influences on the coping ability of children and families; exposure should both be monitored and reduced for those most vulnerable, such as children (Joshi, Lewin, 2004). While I was in Detroit, Michigan they informed us that reports about the flood there made little news. Many people lost their homes due to the sewer system not being able to keep up.
