Paul Butler one of the debaters arguing for the motion described a moment in his life when his family member was diagnosed with lung cancer and the doctor had said that marijuana would be the best solution. “He didn 't live in a state where medical marijuana was available, and so our family faced the difficult choice of becoming lawbreakers, risking arrest and prosecution, or watching my relative live and die in pain” (Paul Butler). Almost everyone in the U.S has a family member or knows someone that has had a family member diagnosed with cancer. Just imagine the pain and suffering a cancer patient goes through, don’t they deserve the chance to live their life pain free? What kind of person would takes away someone’s right to peace? It’s not only just about the patient but what about their family as well. They’d have watch their family member die in agony and know that when the time comes it was a painful death. Let’s say that Paul Butler’s family got ahold of marijuana and gave it to their family member. It still wouldn’t allow the victim to relax because in the back of their mind they know that at any moment their loved ones could go to jail. By legalizing drugs the fear of going to jail for helping a loved one would be completely diminished and everyone including the victim could live with no
