Reflection Paper On Learning Plan

Learning Plan As I begin my journey here at Western Carolina University, it is critical that I take full advantage of all the opportunities available. Luckily, I happen to be smart enough to be a part of the Honors college, but the distinction comes with high standards. The honors college allows students to perform above and beyond to ensure that we will generate the utmost of our experience while attending WCU. Consequently, it is important for me to create a very distinct honors path to ensure I accomplish everything I intend to accomplish while at college. For my honors learning plan, I will pursue study abroad and service learning. Therefore, as a criminal justice major I have chosen two elements that I believe to best benefit myself …show more content…
Typically, the service is relevant to your community needs. After the completion of a service learning project, there is a structured reflection paper that assists student’s in thinking about their experiences and gain meaning. Astonishingly, Western Carolina has several non-profit partnerships linked to poverty, hunger, housing, the environment, children, education, culture, health care, animal care, seniors, government agencies, etc. Considering that the criminal justice department is one of the biggest departments, it is crucial for me to be involved in service learning that works with government agencies, so I can establish a fair amount of connections. Not only would service learning with the government establish connections, but service learning is also community building, can assist with career choices and job applications, builds leadership skills, allows career exploration opportunities, and work experience. With all the resources available I can all become involved right here on campus! In order to find service opportunities that the university offers, I can proceed to the website servicelearning.wcu.edu or attend different days of service throughout the year that the campus hosts. Also, there are constantly special projects and events happening as well as the alternative break trips during fall and spring breaks. Regardless of what I decide to …show more content…
The life changing experience, being different and affordability, are all reasons why college students should study abroad. After hearing Mr. Gieser speak, I’ve begun to reevaluate my future plans. Yet, it did not occur to me that you can use your financial aid to study abroad and the cost can vary from $11,000 to over $30,000 a semester depending upon where you may decide to travel. Not only can you study abroad for a semester, but there are opportunities to take a course through Western Carolina University for two to three weeks alongside Western Carolina staff or you can take an individual trip for one to three months. Before you can study abroad, you are obligated to be a full-time student, have completed at least thirty post high school credits, and have a minimum GPA of 2.75. In order to study abroad, it is advised to meet with Jim Gieser, your advisor, and the financial aid office prior to the deadlines. Remarkably, Jim has influenced myself to give this a second thought and investigate the process. I believe studying abroad can distinctly set you apart from others on a job resume and in everyday life. This would be an experience of a lifetime that could improve my self-confidence, communication skills, and give me an opportunity to meet fresh faces all over the world. Nevertheless, it would assist me in learning different perspectives and increase my understanding of other cultures.

Honors committee, As long as I can remember I have sought challenges in academics. Until only recently I didn't know why I pushed myself as hard as I have in school, but now I understand it is because I truly love learning. This is part of why I think I should be admitted into the honors program here at the University of Iowa. WHY I WANT TO JOIN THE HONORS PROGRAM Alighting from a Boeing 747 jetliner on the JFK tarmac on Thursday evening, April 28, 2016, I walked into what could be called a new page in my life story—a new start. Knowing this, I vowed to keep this God given asset alive and growing with all my soul and might, and what better way to do this than to identify with people of like passion, people who will add to me.…

I have been an “honors” student since the fifth grade. After graduating high school, I had no intention of purposefully participating in anymore advanced or gifted or honors classes, anything more rigorous than normal was ultimately not on my radar. After all, these are the type of classes I had known my entire school career. Nonetheless, I was slightly disappointed when I found out that students were invited to join the honors college on immediate acceptance to Georgia State and I had not been one of those lucky souls. Lesson planning is a highly important part of teaching. Lesson plans are a teacher’s guide in his or her class room. They outline the learning goals and objectives for a particular lesson or chapter; they may also include the activity the teacher has planned and the supplies they will need to help the students complete that assignment. During my field placement I have yet to see my cooperating teacher plan out her lessons for the week, but it is clear she has a lesson plan. She usually has a lecture planned out for each day and she uses the textbook to outline the students learning objectives.…
