Imagine a world where everyone has technology, whether it’s a cell phone, laptop, tablet, you name it, everyone has it. Even those living in the far away depths of America, and those who can’t even afford free school lunch. This is hard to image and poses many questions, but in general, it is unrealistic. “Our Future Selves,” an article written by Eric Schmidt and Jared Cohen, informs readers on the importance of technology in revolutionizing our today. Both authors are highly involved with the technical world as Schmidt is the former CEO of Google and Cohen is currently the director of Google Ideas. Obviously both authors have adequate experience, but will their revolutionizing do more damage than good? I have a firm belief that children these days should be outside soaking up the sunlight and fresh air, rather than wifi and a screen’s UV light; Therefore, I disagree with the authors on this topic.

While I do not agree with the views of the authors, I do agree that technology will only continue to grow and there will be benefits. Although I see concerns with this article, I can also see the impact this situation will have on our society over time. In just the last decade, we have seen technology grow, and shrink immensely. By shrink, I mean we can fit what used to be a 60 pound computer system into our pockets. With the decrease in size, the increase in popularity seems to only be growing. Just like the authors conclude, technology will be able to have many effects on our communities, some benefits and some downfalls. I believe the best way to approach this is to take baby steps. Slowly introducing technology to remote and third world countries would allow for less shock and more time to adjust.
