This decision will affect the citizens, hospitals, and business who need the fund of the federal government. Even though, the state of Texas has the right to refuse the expand of Medicaid under the federal affordable care act will have major consequences in the future. Since the federal government cannot force States to expand the Medicaid program a lot of republican dominant states have refused to accept the expansion of Medicaid. On study (Frakt & Carroll, 2013) insisted that the “States have two separate concerns about Medicaid costs. The first is the cost of the expansion itself and the second is the cost of providing Medicaid coverage to individuals currently eligible for the program but not enrolled” (p. 2). Also, this decision will leave millions of poor people without health insurance coverage in the State of Texas. The Medicaid program in Texas has a very strict policy when it comes to the requirement of the documents. According to Dickson (2015) “the Obama administration may push the states of Texas to expand Medicaid to low-income adults under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act because that would decrease the need for the costly waivers.” There has been a lot of issue with health care and trying to find the best fit heath care for each States. Medicaid is not a perfect health plan but it has a lot of good advantage when it comes to helping the poor workers and low-income families. Students like me cannot afford paying for school, housing, car insurances, phone bills and health insurances. A lot people do not put health insurance as a priority because of other needs. The expansion of Medicaid is needed in the state of Texas to help people like me and the low-income families without a health coverage. The Texas decision also might have been reflected on based on political parties. The state of Texas is mostly dominated by republican party.
