Language Barriers In Sociocultural Communication

I was surprised at how self–efficient the little boy was; as he did not at all act like a typical child, but a young adult. However, at the same time, I thought how someone could willingly attempt to undermine this little boy’s confidence. My first impression of the little boy’s parents was that they were not involved in their child’s life; at least not in the same way of a typical parent, that we would consider being within the norm of society. The parents sacrificed everyday expenditures such as medical and first aid assistance in order to provide their son with the necessary luxurious means of everyday life; such as clothes and shoes.

These necessities; such as the shoes at the beginning of the video, are too big and do not fit their child. From this scene, one could only assume that the parents did not seem to know the shoe size

These barriers make the extreme difficulty of interpreting serious yet meaningful ideas and or information that is attempting to be transferred via communication between two or more individuals or groups, which consist of both a sender and a receiver. The interference within language barriers can often delay the development of communication on socio-cultural relationships, which often cause various conflicts within a community. In these cases, it is important for the teacher and the institution to find a common ground to work from by first identifying the problem and then coming up with a highly efficient solution.

In order to overcome and handle communication problems caused by language barriers with those non-English speakers from other cultures, is by treating that person with the same respect you would also wish to be treated with. A person should be patient when communicating; if you cannot understand them verbally, find an interpreter to help, or make an attempt to comprehend the nonverbal communications of these other
