Squealer used propaganda to mess with the animals and make them believe Snowball was not helping them in the Battle of Cowshed. He does this by saying, “And as to the Battle of Cowshed, I believe the time will come when we shall, fins that Snowballs part in it was much exaggerated (55). In this quote, Squealer is sent to explain Napoleons new plans and make sure to distort the animals memories of Snowball. He needs the animals to stop seeing him as a hero and more as a criminal. By making Napoleon seem like such as hero, he secures Napoleons spot as the leader and snowball as an outcast. Squealer has a good vocabulary and to the other animals seems to be very smart and courageous. He is able to explain any situation and have the animals totally blinded. Also, Squealer is able to use repetition as a key tactic to remind the animals of their duty. It is shown through phrases like, “Surely, comrades, you do not want Jones back” (56) and “Long live Animal Farm” (71) which are continually repeated by Squealer in order to make sure the animals remember. Anytime the animals begin to question him he will repeat these phrases to quiet him. George Orwell delicately crafts his words to be remembered by the audience and clear demonstrate how using language you can gain control. The way to grab attention is to ask rhetorical questions, the way to make a memorable remark is to repeat phrases and to convince the audience of false facts, you use propaganda.
