According to Alice Park, "nearly 40% of adults have nodded off unintentionally during the day in the past month, and 5% have done so while driving" (54). Whilst those are more immediate effects of fatigue, there also long-term health issues that arise as well. One week during the school year, I foolishly spent several consecutive days staying up late because I was mesmerized by T.V shows. I received only a couple hours of sleep each night throughout the whole week. This resulted in me being unable to focus during any of my classes. I was stricken with droopy eyes, consistent yawns, and the urge to simply lay my head down and fall asleep. My brain was completely fogged over and was unable to process even the simplest of my thoughts. Although I managed to barely stay awake throughout all my classes, I could not remember any information my teachers provided me. This caused me to receive a very low grade on a quiz in my environmental science class. After I got through that battle, I quickly learned my lesson that sleep is not just a luxury but also a
