What is the most deadly animal on the planet? No, it is not a bear or a shark, it is a mosquito. Mosquitos carry all sorts of deadly diseases, including the Zika virus, Yellow fever, Dengue fever, and most deadly of all, Malaria. A mosquito is the perfect carrier for human diseases, as they have been around for over 200 million years, number in the trillions, and can lay hundreds of eggs at a time. They cause about a million deaths every year and have been so far impossible to stop. Scientists however, have found what appears to be a solution. Instead of trying to wipe out mosquitos from existence, or just investing in large quantities of “Off!” spray, scientists have found a gene editing protein that they have been able to use to create mosquitos that are unable to carry the Malaria …show more content…
Wolves that were friendly to humans and turned into their companions became dogs. The humans would then breed only the friendliest dogs, resulting in an offspring that possessed that trait. This process was then repeated over and over again for many different things, size, strength, running ability and more. This was how so many different dog breeds developed in such a short time. Controlled breeding was the first form of genetic engineering. Since wolves became dogs we have also controlled many of our plants and animals. Larger more muscular cows, better tasting fruit, and even hairless cats. Genetic engineering is everywhere, and is unavoidable. Humans have recently started to change the D.N.A. of the plants and animals as well. Gene splicing, editing to make fruits bigger, pigs fatter, and vegetables to have a longer shelf life has taken over our normal organic supermarkets. Now it is almost impossible to go to the grocery store without picking up a genetically modified organism. This however, is just the tip of the iceberg, and in the near future, genetics is going to take a huge step
