Ethical principles are vitally important in medical ethics and health law. The goals that each theory has helped medical professionals become better people and professionals. Nonmaleficence is the intention to do no harm. We want to avoid harm and hurt at all costs. There is for no reason to cause harm or hurt to a patient, and we must do whatever it takes to make sure this does not happen. Also, the last principle of medical ethics is justice. Justice refers to the equality and fairness of goods not based upon who they are, where they come from, or what they have contributed. Giving patients hope is what most healthcare professionals try to accomplish. They believe that giving someone hope and a reason to fight or live is what is necessary. Honoring this phrase and also telling the truth seems very likely. Letting the patient know what is going on but also what their options are is acceptable. They know the truth but can also be hopeful and aware simultaneously. Informing an individual they have cancer does not always mean their sense of hope is automatically disappearing. Anyone can have hope no matter the situation as long as they are willing to uphold it. The term "false hope" can be perceived in many ways. Telling a patient they are not dying at all and are healthy despite otherwise is false hope. False hope is letting someone believe something that is not going to happen or not happen. Most people would consider false hope as contradicting and deceiving.
Altogether, many things are taken into consideration when giving a patient information. How much information should be given? How will the truth affect or not affect the individual? These are just a couple of questions that can be raise in regards to giving patient information. Different aspects must be considered and also the well being of the individual.
