Marijuana is Better for the Individual and Society.
Marijuana is looked at by society as a mean, bad drug ,yet alcohol has caused more problems in society and to the individual than marijuana has. The government has not made alcohol illegal ,but marijuana is still illegal in every state except for four states. Why did these states decide to make marijuana legal? Is marijuana better for society and the individual rather than alcohol?
People who have consumed alcohol are aware of the dangers it can cause and eventually result in death. People that smoke marijuana know that it can not be overdosed. Aaron E. Researchers have also said that marijuana in legalized states may reduce the violent crime rate.Marijuana is not a violent drug. It does not make people mean. Alcohol has been proven to cause many health problems. Researchers have found that alcohol can cause liver disease or liver cancer. Drinking fewer times can still cause detrimental health problems even tho not a lot of alcohol is being consumed on a daily basis. Having one drink a day has been proven to highly boost the risk of cancer of the breast , liver, rectum, throat, mouth , and esophagus in women. There many short term risk that alcohol cause such as violence. Alcohol causes lots of people to become extremely violent. That alcohol related violence has led to many deaths, fights and people being put in jail just from consuming alcohol. Over consuming alcohol can cause alcohol poisoning. It has been used for good actually. Marijuana is given to cancer patients who can not eat because it stimulates appetite. They also use it to help ease pain from the radiation treatments. It is also used to treat multiple sclerosis, diabetes, and glaucoma. Some studies that have been done on marijuana have said that it can lead to lung cancer but other studies have proven that to be wrong. Marijuana is very new to research and many scientist do not know exactly what negative effects marijuana can have on the body but so far no studies have proven it to have life threatening effects. There is good enough evidence so far that marijuana does have beneficial health compounds. Some bad things about marijuana that have been proven to be true are still not as serious as to what alcohol can do to the body.
