Animal Testing is Cruel and Unnecessary Every year, 100 million animals are killed because of animal testing (“The 5 Worst Animal Experiments Happening Right Now.”). Tobacco companies are forcing animals to smoke, some animal are even getting smoked pumped into their noses for hours a day for “research” (“The 5 Worst Animal Experiments Happening Right Now”).There are non-animal testing methods that are superior but they aren’t being utilized. Animals are dying for biology lessons, curiosity-driven experimentation, medical training, chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing. “Researchers have developed a wide range of sophisticated computer models that simulate human biology and the progression of developing diseases. Studies have shown that these models can accurately predict the way new drugs will react on the human body (“Alternatives to Animal Testing”).” The use of animals vary from creature to creature but with a computer, the answer is always the same. The different conditions a computer is in doesn’t change it’s answer, unlike an animal. Another useful research tool is microdosing. Microdosing is when drugs are administered to humans at such a low dosage that it would be unlikely to produce a reaction that would be severe, but a large enough amount to allow the body to react and allow the cellular response to be studied (“Alternatives to Animal Testing”). Microdosing is one of the few ways that actually shows the effects of a new drug on the human body. Animals don’t have the same genes as humans and shouldn't be treated like they do. However, I understand that animal testing may be cheaper but in the long run, it’s a waste of time. Research that comes from animal testing should not be considered worth anything because humans and animals are two different
