Adultery And Morality In Wasserstrom's 'Adultery'

Wasserstrom: Adultery Adultery is much more than morally wrong. Wasserstrom points out this very thing in this reading. First he formulates an argument asking if adultery and morality in the same realm of wrongness and if so what puts them there. The first premise to take into account is breaking a promise, but does this make extra marital sex immoral? I would first like to touch on this “promise” that makes it immoral to have sex outside of the marriage. When marrying someone it is tradition to have vows, i see this as those promises. A vast majority of couples get married in a church, During the ceremony the officiator or priest usually is reading some sort of script from the bible uniting you as a couple, this usually entails the statement …show more content…
I will move forward under the notion of a wedding that is held in a church, and sworn in under oath on the biblical scriptures and promises made. During ceremony two people are sworn to unity, under the notion that you shall not commit adultery, read from the scripture. So that being the premise of your marriage you both come to the agreement, or make the promise, that this is not to be done. Morally it is wrong to commit adultery. Second stance is emotion, operating under the assumption that it is morally wrong to intentionally hurt someone or cause harm. By committing adultery you are not only hurting them but you are causing harm to their quality of life. So second grounds against adultery is the moral obligation you have to that person's emotion and quality of life. In conclusion. Adultery is morally impermissible to cause harm to someone intentionally, and exclude the emotion and promises you've …show more content…
Of course it is wrong to kill someone else because of a difference in views or sexual desires. We can all agree that it is morally wrong to do so. As she mentioned in the article it is a hate crime to kill someone under these circumstances. That being said, Janet Mock touches on the fact that if a transgender person is only sought after as a one night stand by a non transgender person, they are in no way obligated to tell that person, who seemingly takes no interest in knowing them there story and there sexcual

In a scene from chapter eight of The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne describes that adulteress Hester Prynne pleads with the governor and several clergymen (including Rev. Arthur Dimmesdale), Puritan authorities who speculate that Prynne fails to pass on their Puritan Religion to her daughter, to refrain from taking Pearl away from her. Throughout this courtroom scene, Hester calls Reverend Dimmesdale forward to support her plea, which after some persuasion, in turn results in the young reverend delivering a speech on behalf of Hester, who challenges the Puritan authorities grounds to judge her. Hawthorne implies that when they come to face with Hester committing adultery, the Puritans, so unadjusted to dealing with sin, conclude that she…

Steinbock’s Limited Application of the Immorality of Adultery At first glance, it seems as though adultery in our culture is mostly regarded as an issue of private matter, it chiefly involves spouses. But on closer inspection it appears that the common consensus (that most hold, not all) on adultery fails to recognize the repercussions of holding such a notion. This is because, as Steinbock argues, the way we view adultery affects the thoughts and feelings on love, marriage, and family (for the purposes of this essay I will not delve too deeply on this point because it is so overarching but rather use this point to raise issue). So, then, it holds that although adultery is a private matter one must not regard it as “morally neutral”.…

Yes, John did commit the sin of adultery with Abigail. I believe he lives everyday with the guilt and shame of his mistake, especially when he sees Abigail on the street or when he looks into the eyes of his wife. No, based on the language and context of her dialogue, I don´t think that his wife ever did or likely ever will forgive him for his actions with the other woman because of how she always brings it up and never lets him rest from it. Always judging him, and suspecting him, you would think she would either give it up or do something about it. Anyone would likely be suspicious for a time, with understandable circumstances.…

Religion and the LGBT community are two groups that tend to clash; however, in reality there should not be a divider between the two as faith continually proves God’s unconditional love for His children. The essay “Gay Marriage: Our Mutual Joy,” by Lisa Miller, explains to the readers the truths behind the Bible and about God’s love towards homosexuality. In comparison, the article “The Religious People Who Give Us Hope,” by Stevie St. John, displays several religious leaders supporting the LGBT community by sharing the true nature of God. Both “Gay Marriage: Our Mutual Joy” and “The Religious People Who Give Us Hope for Religion” make evident of the unconditional love and acceptance of God that is freely given to all His children.…

Gay love has been an issue for the longest now and it’s beginning to get out of hand. But that’s not the only thing that’s getting out of hand, what also is getting out of hand is societies view on those who are transgender. Which brought to my attention that some people are so reluctant to change that they resort violence and brute force in order to shape things into their image whenever something that they say is wrong starts to occur. They are only interested and care about what they want to see is “right” day to day. The way we approach people who are gay or transgender is outright ridiculous and ignorant which can easily be added to the millions of other situations where ignorance has occurred in history.…

nsmisogyny, which is just a combination of the two. Misogyny describes the hatred and discrimination of women and the viewpoint that traits that are feminine are for no particular reason inferior to masculine traits, rather than the obvious, which is equal. Transphobia encompasses not only a phobia just because people are different but also that they identify as a different gender and express it. Thusly, transmisogyny is a combination of both where these are expressed through sometimes extreme levels of intolerant behavior including but not limited to attitude, violence, oppression of rights, and additionally discrimination toward trans people who tend to stray more towards the feminine side but do not have a specified gender that they find…

    Gender Roles In Hinduism

The final part of the Hinduism chapter discussed the topics about gender roles, health etiquettes, path to salvation, religious living, and the afterlife. The discussion on gender roles was most intriguing to me and it provided some insight about how women were treated in the ancient world. According to Bilhartz, Hinduism emphasizes a nondualistic reality, where "opposites are mere illusions; true reality is indivisible; ultimately everything ( male/female, creator/creature; human/divine) is One" (2006, p. 186). Within Hinduism exists multiple gods that may take masculine or feminine forms, but beyond these gods is the Absolute Reality that has a male-female transcendent quality. Although the central idea of Hinduism is nonduality, the Hindu scriptures did not build upon this theological insight and…
