This article focuses on studying the relationship between exuberance and persistence that children behave in multiple challenging contexts with different incentive values. Researchers also want to know if the incentive value of goals can play an important role in influencing the behavioral regulation of 109 exuberant pre-schoolers in China. Through several experiments they found that exuberant children tend to be more persistent on a goal-blocked task. This result stimulated researcher’s curiosity that why exuberant children is so well regulated under goals with high incentive values?

It demonstrates the positive effect of the exuberance under a goal-blocked task but puts less attention on the negative behavior associated with exuberance. The result of the non-explored study shows high consistency with the previous hypothesis that children with greater exuberance are likely to be more persistent under a goal-blocked task with high incentive value. That is to say, if exuberant children are highly enthusiasm to achieve a goal, they are expected to have a well-regulatory behavior. It was fully supported by the outcome of TB and partially demonstrated its correctness in LB. In the case of LB, exuberant children are very glad to open the locked box regardless of whether it is an empty box. They showed high persistence characteristics (well-regulated behaviors) just like what these exuberant children behave in a previous similar experiment called “empty gift box”. However, in the condition of TB, exuberant children displayed less well-regulated behavior under the distractor context with higher incentive value. She used non-verbal cues, such as hand signal to a child who was not sitting properly on the rug, and she gave “the look” to a student that was moving too much on his seat while she was reading the story.
