For my interview I decided to interview an elderly woman, that lives next to our cabin in a small town called Leader Minnesota. I have not known her very long, but every time that my family had talked to her or helped her around her house she has always had a good sense of hummer, and every time we went over to her house she would have a fun new stories to listen to. In the early 1940’s Mariann Guentzel was born into a small tight knit family living in St. Paul Minnesota. Mariann is now in her seventies and has led a very interesting life traveling the country, raising six children, and shaping her chosen professions. She said “Its ok to get old if you don’t have all the aches and pains, but if you have all the aches and pains that is no way to live” (Guentzel, Mariann). Mariann does not consider herself to be old. Mariann defines being old as “when you can’t do anything, and that you should be happy with the quality of life because it is more important to the quantity of life” (Guentzel, Mariann). Mariann has said she has lived a good life, but if she could change one thing she wishes she would have bought horses sooner. This is because this is one of her most favorite hobbies. Mariann thinks the best part of being old is that you are able to do anything you what when you want without having a strict schedule. Mariann thinks the elderly in the community are not treated properly. We both agreed that there needs to be a big change in how elderly are treated in the nursing home. We both thought that the elderly in the nursing homes are given way too much medication that they don’t really need. Mariann thought that they should try natural remedied instead of giving them medication all of the time. We also agreed that the elderly should not just be sent to a nursing home. This is because they should be sent to an assisted living first, and then if the person needs more help than they should be moved to a nursing home, but even there they should not be treated like a number, and a pay check. We both believe that if they were treated a lot better, and were not given so much medications they would be living a happier life, and maybe live
