The Internet is used everyday by numerous people around the world, but few know the origin of the Internet. The Internet today has evolved from the original design of the ARPANET in the late 1960’s by the Department of Defense, which was created to share information from server to server, to the World Wide Web created in 1990 by Tim Berners-Lee which also shares information from server to server but allows the user to only use one program instead of switching programs to gain information from different servers. The Internet has changed from its creation and has changed society but is the change a positive or has the change debilitated society? Students use the Internet in order to get around actual learning whether it is online calculators that show steps for when the teacher requires work or using online tools to get homework answers that prevents from actual having to understand the concept to get homework points. According to Zach Miners of usnew.com “Two thirds of responders to the poll—which surveyed 1,013 teens in late May and early June—say others in their school have cheated with cellphones. More than half admit to using the Internet to cheat”(Miners). With all of the teens using the Internet to cheat in school it has had a negative effect on the learning of students teachers have no way of knowing whether a student is actually understanding a topic. Schools are not the only part of society negatively affected by the Internet crime rate has also risen thanks to the Internet being used in a negative manner. The Internet has been linked to the increase of criminal activity both petty, major and even some new crimes that can only take place online. According to the National Crime Prevention Council “Computer hackers are able to enter areas of the Internet where they are prohibited and hack in to another computer network.
