In recent years, there has been more and more controversy surrounding whether or not the human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine needs to be mandated by the federal government. Some parents are under the impression that the vaccine will negatively impact their children, while others feel that the vaccine causes no harm to children, and even protects children from potentially life threatening diseases. In fact, there is data which indicates that more and more parents are refusing vaccination for their children. “In California, the ‘personal belief exemption’ (PBE) rate for kindergarten school entry vaccination requirements increased by 67 percent over the ten year period 2000 to 2010, [but] the benefit of vaccination is reflected through the prevention of disease” (Amin et al., 2012). It is the most commonly transmitted sexually transmitted disease. In a normal case, the HPV would be able to clear the body, just given some time, but in some cases, the HPV stays in the body and can start causing problems and the HPV is known as high-risk HPV. Initially, the high-risk HPV causes persistent infection. But later, it can lead to more serious complications. The HPV is the main cause of almost all cases of genital warts and cervical cancer, 90% of anal cancers, 65% of vaginal cancers, 50% of vulvar cancers, 35% of penile cancers, and 60% of oropharyngeal cancers (cancers of the back of the throat, including the base of the tongue and tonsils). Four out of five people have at least one type of HPV at some time in their lives. (Cancer Council, 2015).Therefore, it is evident that the HPV vaccine needs to be federally enforced because HPV is a life threatening
