The annual wages for computer programmers had dropped because of the availability of trained workers outside the United States. This will result in a projected loss of 26,500 jobs by 2024 (Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2016-17 Edition, Computer Programmers). The writing and testing of code, as well as the designing of relevant computer software is still needed, but there does not appear to be a need for a higher degree of analysis and protection of information in programming, as there is in the other selected IT professions. Another difference for programmers is there is no requirement for a standardized license or certification (What does a Computer Programmer do?). Analyzing of IT systems and the adaptation of the system to meet demands, decrease costs and increase benefits has led to the rapid growth of systems analysts. The creative use of analytical and communication skills is a requirement for this IT profession. This primary focus of this IT profession “is to understand their client’s business” (Computer Systems Analyst Overview). These analysts work with management to decide how to meet the needs of the organization, how to solve problems, produce technology solutions, and provide training for employees. The median annual wage in May 2015 was $85,800 (Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2016-17 Edition, Computer Systems Analysts). The importance of being able to analyze larger and larger amounts of data and information has led to the need for more IT professionals in the emerging field of Big Data Analysis.
