Influence of the Enlightenment The Enlightenment started in Europe after the ideals from the Science Revolution and the increase of trade. The Enlightenment began during the 1700’s after several scientists proposed their experiments about the universe. All philosophers like, Voltaire believed in human reason and the idea of progress or improvements made in society. One of the famous philosophers from the Enlightenment was John Locke, who believed in the idea of our natural rights of life, liberty, and property. The idea of natural rights influenced all of Europe and it’s people which lead to revolution. Natural rights influenced many documents such as, The Declaration of Independence, The U.S. Constitution, and The Declaration of the Rights of Man. Natural rights by John Locke is the idea that humans are born with the right to life, liberty, and property. This idea inspired people to take a stand over the government and protect their basic liberties. It influenced people to have power to overthrow the government and start a revolution in order to gain equality.
