Nukes have prevented more major wars and battlefield deaths since World War 2. “Since Aug. 9, 1945, approximately 7 million to 10 million people have died from conflict. Before the introduction of nuclear weapons, two world wars alone led to the deaths of 70 million to 100 million — a difference of a decimal point” (Spalding).So in about a 70 year period 90% less people died in war than in about a 30 year period. Also according to Kenneth Waltz, one of the world’s most respected scholars in international relations, before nukes, the great powers of the world often settled conflict with a full fledged war, but now there are more diplomatic negotiations. But of course, some people argue that a world with nuclear weapons would lead to World War 3. And if the last war was any indication, the US would need a tremendous one up against the enemy in order to prevail again. A big thing in the last World War though, was the unruly civilian deaths. But according to Stratfor Global Intelligence, low yield nuclear weapons exist and if the conflict comes to a stage of requiring nukes, these low yield weapons will solely hit the target and minimize civilian death. Nukes give the US all of its power in the modern era. Nuclear disarmament will lead to the deterioration of the United States.
