My First Youtube: Appropriate Social Media

Maybe I’m just biased because I’ve been creating videos on it for almost 6 years now, but Youtube is a pretty incredible social media platform. I mean, there’s truly nothing else like it. What social media site can say that it has been relevant for 10 years and STAYED relevant? I can’t think of a single candidate other than Youtube. Throughout those 10 years, the site has changed an insane amount. But what wouldn’t change in a decade? As a girl who started making videos discussing makeup, hair, nail polish, and “all things girly” as my 15 year old self described it, I became known as a ‘beauty guru’ on Youtube. A beauty guru, back in the day (2010), was a makeup tutorial-making, product junkie who most likely owned 37 too many Mac eyeshadows and offered tips and tricks on you guessed it, all things beauty. So what would a brace-faced, 15 year old who had never recorded a video before make? I decided on an ‘Introduction + Mini Drugstore Haul’, as I called it. The video is still up to this day, due to be 6 years old in April. I will NEVER delete that video, no matter how much it pains me to watch my shy, baby self in that horrid-quality, unedited, lighting-less webcam video. I look back and see what I started at, how much I have grown and how my video quality has (thankfully) improved since that day. Little did I know that deciding to post that video would affect not only the rest of my high school years, but also my decision to move across the country, choice to attend FIDM and enter the beauty industry merchandising and marketing major, and still, on this day 5 and a half years later, be the single greatest decision I’ve ever
