Should The Death Penalty Be Abolished

People of all ages, starting from ages 12 and up, from little children to old adults, have been getting executed for years. A large amount of states have done away with the death penalty since the 21st century, fortunately it still exists in America. The death penalty is the worst punishment for anyone who decides to do a horrible crime. The death penalty continues to exist today and causes a grand impact on society. Without the death penalty America would be letting perpetrators back into society with only an insufficient amount of years; however, with the death penalty, there is a possibility of someone being wrongly accused and put to death. In the 18th century England, hundreds of crimes were punishable by death like cutpurse and petty money theft (no longer punishable by death). Many people were attempting to do away with this form of executions by reducing the sentences for many offences. However, others think that the death penalty should be applied for horrible crimes. In the eighteenth century people were put to the death penalty by burning or shooting them. In 1924, the gas chamber was introduced, but was ended in the 1960s. Within this time eighteen states have gotten rid of the death penalty; eleven states are still deciding if they should get rid of the penalty (Smith 1). The execution of Clayton Locket was by lethal injection. He was strapped to a bed in the death chamber. He was convicted of killing a nineteen year old woman by shooting her and then burying her alive in 1999. The executioner gave him the injection Locket began kicking, twitching, and moaning in pain.
