Myth Of The Cinderella Story

Myths are all around us, because they come from our life experiences. They are created through important life experiences and they repeat themselves throughout history. In the movie Pretty Woman” It shows the repeated myth of the “Cinderella” story. Although the Cinderella story is not about a prostitute who gets saved by a rich man, the myth is still there. The Prostitute is the poor girl and the prince charming is the rich guy. These are considered myth hero stories that people relate to. The Myth of the poor girl, who has no family, gets saved by a handsome prince charming, is something that most women relate to. Most women have that feeling of being saved by a handsome man regardless of how it is being presented.
“Pretty Woman” has the most cliché hero story. It shows the different myths that have been repeated in different movies, and has the perfect “Cinderella” story. It starts off with one of the main characters, Edward, he is rich, handsome and is powerful. Edward doesn’t start off as a hero at first he is built up with time throughout his journey. According to Linda Seger, Edward fits the healing myth hero. “The universal experience behind these healing stories is our psychological need for rejuvenation, for balance” (338). Now that she has all the clothes she needs he is able to present her in front of his friends. He has one of his employees help her get ready so that she is able to attend the dinner. As Vivian walks out all ready for the dinner he is amazed by how well she cleans up, and of course how beautiful she looks. The viewers at this point are just as amazed of how beautiful she looks. People have this perception that someday a prince charming will save them just like Edward did with Vivian. It is normal now to say that they have re-created a myth of the rich handsome man giving the girl a makeover so that he can present her in
