I Have Learned
This is my second year at Stephens College, but I just finished my first semester as an education major, and it was amazing! I started out my college career as a psychology major, but I plan to graduate with an education degree, and fulfill my dream of teaching children. Throughout this semester I have learned many different things about teaching that will stick with me my entire career. I learned about the teaching and learning process through the course work I was given, the time I spent in the classroom teaching lessons, as well as the times that I sat back and just observed the preschool and elementary classrooms. While going through the course work this semester I have begun to learn about the many different aspects of teaching. The first aspect was how to write a lesson plan. We started

I did not know what these terms meant until this year, when I learned that formative is assessing everyday without a test or for a grade, while summative is an actual test that the students take for a grade but also allows the teacher to know where they are and how much of the lesson they actual learned. Both of these types of assessment can be used to help a teacher know where the class is and what he/she may need to go over again. I did not realize until I learned about this that I tend to asses the students or even other people everyday based on their performance of a specific task. Along with assessment and lesson plans comes technology. This idea is a bit of a struggle for me because I am not the best with technology, but I know to be a successful teacher and have successful students one must teach them how to use technology and I must be able to incorporate it into my classroom daily. Therefore, from this class I learned I need to use technology everyday, plan lessons based on my students and their needs, as well as assess my students through both formative and summative

To me, writing is just ok, nothing special. It definitely isn’t something I get excited about. My first formal writing class was in 6th grade, where we followed The Institute for Excellence in Writing’s curriculum. My fellow classmates and I mainly wrote short, 1-3 paragraph reports on various historical topics. I did well in these classes, I just never really enjoyed the process of writing.…

I have missed a lot of school days and that has really affected my grades for all my classes. The days that I have been in class I end up putting my head down for the reason I don't feel good and I dont have the energy to do my work or to learn something new because as much as I try my head started hurting more. I think I haven't grown in my classes like I wanted to and that's something that is really stressing me a lot because I really don't want to repeat the grade I really want to pass my freshman year and go to the next grade.…

Writing has been my talent since grade school; I couldn’t sing, or dance but I could write, or so I thought. Then, I entered high school and realized that writing required a lot more than it did in middle school. The brisk pace and advanced comprehension skills required for my English three AP course caused my grades to suffer. I have struggled with college level essay writing tremendously, but through hard-work I have been able to write with more ease and finesse than ever before.…

My Road to Reading and Writing As Mark Twain said, “The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read”. Many people today don’t take up reading or writing as a hobby. A lot of people would not even read a book for entertainment or to expand their knowledge and the most they write is a post on social media. In my opinion, most people know how to read but chose not to because they are uninterested or unwilling which causes them no to be as proficient in writing.…

Through the past semester, I believe my writing has strengthened in skill and individual direction. In a similar manner, as a college freshman learns independence during their first year on campus by living away from home with less guidance, so has my writing skills. Whereas, in high school, our teachers provided us with a uniformed writing prompt with a clear argument or thesis. This semester has provided me with the skill in writing towards a specific audience with a clear position. Through this process, I was rewarded with the opportunity in learning to incorporate my voice in my writing, instead of simply to questions that were posed on a sheet of paper.…

In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…
