I am still unsure of exactly what I want to do. This assignment helped me out with that decision. It forced me to take a more in-depth look into the professions I was thinking about entering. When we think about what we want to do with our lives we don’t always look truly into the specifics of it, but rather how we think it will impact our lives. Before this project, all I knew for certain was that whatever I would do with my life it would be people oriented.…

Upon reading DiAngelo & Sensoy there were five main points of concern addressed within the article. These topics had concern on the basis that the students coming into this course may more or less be unprepared and unwilling to open their minds up to this new material. The first main point was about aiming for intellectual humility. The authors claimed that this meant the students are apprehensive about learning new material and challenging their current and developed beliefs. This main point makes a reference to an astronomy student conflicting with his teacher on the existence of Pluto.…

I have long been fascinated by the way politics and economics influence individuals and how decisions made by political leaders can change the course of history. I am intrigued by the historical development of political and economic thought, as evidenced when studying the history of China. Milton Friedman’s Capitalism and Freedom provided me perspective on the connectivity of economic and political freedoms needed to strengthen democratic institutions. I also enjoyed Thomas Piketty’s Capital in the Twenty-First Century for his outlook on global inequality. His argument that rapid economic growth diminishes the importance of wealth was engaging and provided concrete historical data to back concepts such as the Kuznets curve, Gini coefficient and Lorenz curve from macroeconomics.…

Monday at nine a.m. sharp in the morning, I took one step into room A232 and had no clue what College 101 would accomplish. There was barely anything I knew related to what the class was about and the material it would involve. It was a required course every full-time student needed and was worth two credits. People said no stressful heavy, rigorous information was in there to memorize. As I grabbed a seat, my instructor gave me a better understanding on the purpose of the course.…

My Road to Reading and Writing As Mark Twain said, “The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read”. Many people today don’t take up reading or writing as a hobby. A lot of people would not even read a book for entertainment or to expand their knowledge and the most they write is a post on social media. In my opinion, most people know how to read but chose not to because they are uninterested or unwilling which causes them no to be as proficient in writing.…

Society has set a standard for high school graduates to complete their education through attendance of a university. Personally I aimed to fulfill that standard by attending the second largest university in the state. When applying to the University of Central Florida, applicants were given the opportunity to prove to the reader that they are a respectable, independent, and well-rounded student in around 500 words or less. Which, because there is so much to talk about yet we are restricted by the limited word count, can be a strain for some students. I was determined to make the most out of my opportunity and deliver the best essay to the University.…

Through the past semester, I believe my writing has strengthened in skill and individual direction. In a similar manner, as a college freshman learns independence during their first year on campus by living away from home with less guidance, so has my writing skills. Whereas, in high school, our teachers provided us with a uniformed writing prompt with a clear argument or thesis. This semester has provided me with the skill in writing towards a specific audience with a clear position. Through this process, I was rewarded with the opportunity in learning to incorporate my voice in my writing, instead of simply to questions that were posed on a sheet of paper.…
