The case of “Too Much Information” involves four students that are given a group assignment where they are to act as ethical consultants to a group purchasing organization that is involved in a scandal. It was written in a well-respected newspaper that the organization’s spending habits were preventing patients from receiving the proper care. The students are assigned to draft a letter and present a plan to show the organization is one of the top ethical leaders in their field. If the group chooses to use the research, it would be considered cheating because it is going against the directions that were given. As we have learned in business administration, your academic integrity is an important quality, and it reflects your character as a person. If you keep your academic integrity intact and are honest your word and your work will be respected. If the group chooses to use the research it not only reflects badly on Jeff, but on all members of the group since no one spoke up and said using the information was wrong. The decision the group makes will reveal how much they value their academic integrity. Specifically, from Erica’s perspective, if she values her integrity, she is going to have to be the one to stand up to the group and voice that she believes using the information is wrong. This is testing Erica’s values because she is going to have to go against what Jeff suggested, even though using the information he found would be easier and could get them a good grade, if they are not caught.
