Consequences Of Distractions In Huxley's Brave New World

Register to read the introduction… With distractions, you can’t think deeply about things. In Brave New World, deep thinking is not allowed and uncalled for. That is why they provide a “happy pill” called soma to make them forget what they were trying to think about (Huxley 26). They have certain games one can play to prevent them from thinking that they are better than someone else. This game is called Obstacle Golf (Huxley 20). Without distractions, it allows you to think and find out things. Distractions can change how you think about things. In Brave New World, they want you to think like the others. Without distractions, you’d have time to think deeply about everything that happens because sitting in silence would allow people to think about that one topic. Bernard from Brave New World was sent away to Iceland for thinking differently than everyone else and being “rebellious” (Huxley 46). But with certain distractions, like smart phones and internet, you can find out anything. If something is popular and people disliked it before it became popular, they’d change their mind to be like everyone else. It makes people change their mind about things. I believe that in Brave New World, they don’t think about how distractions can also change the mind of someone. Things people read and opinions of other humans in the nation can change the reader’s point of view. Smart phones cause a distractions. Not very many people know that there is more than just texting while driving. Some distractions are harmless and some cause injuries or even death.
