The Importance Of Stay At Home Mom

Improved Essays
Unless my current boyfriend is magically going to earn a six-figure salary in the nearest future, there is no way on earth I would ever think about being a stay-at-home mum. I honestly do not understand why working mothers do get the backlash they do for making the decision to go back to work and putting her kids in daycare, I can only sum it up with an attitude of, unless you are paying my bills your opinions do not matter to me. I guess the way I justify my way of thinking is, I want to live a glamourous lifestyle, and I can tell you right now my boyfriend’s pay alone is not going to be able to afford that lifestyle anytime soon. So! Since I am not one to settle, I figured I have to work, before, during and after child-birth. I believe with …show more content…
I have to make sure I find that balance because I would never want my children feeling like I don’t love or care for them, that would be heartbreaking. I have been brought up to believe that other than the unforeseen circumstances that happen and are beyond our control, we have to plan, and included in those plans, there should be a sense of moderation and balance. If I am a working mother, my priority is my family and my job, they fall into the same category. Nobody is perfect and sometimes I may fall short in some areas, but that does not necessarily mean I am a bad mother or a lazy worker. This stigma on working mothers and stay at home mothers has been placed upon us by feminists, men, and society at large. Everyone is going to have an opinion about whichever role I decide on taking, I can only hope that society can stop judging women who choose not to work or don’t want to work, and instead begin respecting women who have degrees and decide to pursue their careers, like

Gender Norms Aren’t Norm Anymore! I came rushing up the stairs and yelling for Isabella to hurry up. I wasn’t going to be late again just because she didn’t want to get up. Three minutes later she came barreling down the stairs from her room, went straight to the coat rack near the front door, and threw on her black leather jacket. Just like every other day she was sporting a rock band t-shirt, black skinny jeans, and a pair of high top shoes.…

This has lead to the shift of women aiming to be employed in largely male-dominated sectors. As England states in her article, “—employers see the worth of predominantly female jobs through biased lenses—“ (p. 153). The rules set in place by society are patriarchal; therefore a woman working seems out of the question. Yet, when she is employed it is rather seen as an achievement rather than a…

For working women, the thought of starting a family is often a huge weight in the back of their minds and when many women finally decide to have children face hurdles when they return to work. Sophia Kerby, policy associate at the Brennan Center for Justice at the New York University School of Law details the implications that starting a family can have on working mothers. “…women, withdraw from the workforce or limit their time at work to allow them to provide needed care at home. As a consequence, these caretakers earn less income in the short run, are less likely to earn raises and promotions, have less access to workplace retirement benefits” (Kerby). This shows the hurdles that are put in front of women, hurdles that would be difficult for any women, especially new mothers, who now must tack on the responsibilities of raising a child.…

I worry that I will not be a good enough mom; however, since I have a busy college schedule with the addition of working and extracurricular activities, I already know how to prioritize and time manage. Another reason more women than men leave the workforce to be with family is because of the emotional connections they feel towards their children. This connection is much stronger in women than in men. Because of what makes up their human nature as a mother, many researchers find women more likely than men to put family before a career. Although many people want more women in the workforce, it is sometimes impossible unless her partner can be a stay-at-home dad. Even if this is the case, it implies that women will feel as comfortable as men do about leaving their children behind.…

Taking care of a young child is not just loving or playing him or her, but it’s also cleaning after the child and calming down the child when upset for multiple reasons. A mother’s role is hard work. It was easy to complain that it’s wrong of parents to leave their children in daycare all week, without knowing what a mother’s role actually is and not thinking about her career on top of that. The only issue I see with my experience is that with the rise of women working there should be more daycares/childcare available. Especially because it is the most amazing sight to see a mother and child reuniting after a long day and the good in knowing that you helped provide her child a stable place while she was at…
