Sleep Deprivation is not getting the required amount of sleep that is needed in order for you to function correctly during the day; it can affect your reflexes and other things such as your memory. Evidence has shown that young men that have been sleep deprived for 36 hours had a significant decrease in there efficacy to solve the N-back test, which tests your memory (Terán-Pérez, 2011). Another study on men involving screen tests shows that after 30 hours of sleep deprivation the activity the there brain significantly decreased as well as task performance (Qiwen Mu, 2005). My participants will be restricted to a small apartment like space where they will be watched continuously and monitored every hour by participating in a stimulating event, such as solving a puzzle. I will choose 20 participants, ten male and then female around the ages of eighteen to twenty-five from Wake Technical Community College by having them volunteer to answer five random questions. I chose to pick from a college because college kids usually tend to stay up later than adults or young kids, so they usually have more of a tolerance for it. I will ask those ten men and ten women to get a good night’s rest the night before the experiment will take place, and I will also ask them to write down how long they slept that night. Then those participant’s will be separated into four different groups. Group one will have to stay up for twelve hours. Group two will have to stay up for twenty-four hours. Group three will have to stay up for 36 hours. Finally, group four will have to stay up for forty-eight hours. During the sleep deprivation process, I will show the participants the same picture every hour. However, every hour I will gradually change something in the picture, at first I will start with an obvious change but as the hours get longer the difficultly will increase. My experiment could help expand upon previous research that has been done by giving researchers more information on learning techniques and how they could improve to benefit the participants. Such as a trial and error to see what techniques work better to help them get the best results possible. My research could help show those people that maybe my technique was not the way to go, but they could built off of it they could get an idea for a new technique that could help them in the long run. Millions of things could interfere with my results, such as a test subject could fall asleep for an hour and we do not realize it. This would interfere tremendously with my results if that were to happen. Alternatively, a test subject could be caught half way through the experiment and it turns out that they were lying about their answers to the test and they were just giving me answers that I wanted to hear. In that case, I would have to scrap those participants’ answers completely and then I would lose a whole chunk of data from my experiment.
