Tobacco was one of the first crops that made a lot of money because it helped pay for the American Revolution against England. Many people just chewed tobacco because it is smokeless and it didn’t affect people around them. It was also a stress reliever when it came to chewing tobacco. Cigarettes were created by James Bonsack in 1865, he mainly sold his hand rolled cigarettes to soldiers in the war. When James created the first cigarette-making machine in 1881 it went world wide and five years later one billion cigarettes were sold. As quote “Cancer Sticks”, is what people normally call cigarettes in today’s society. In the Los Angeles Times newspaper a report was published by the (Journal of Medical Association), “28.8% of all cancer deaths in 2014 representing at least 167,133 people were related to smoking cigarettes. More than a third of those deaths occurred in California”. Imagine the entire world, cigarettes are like an epidemic once a person smokes one cigarette it leads to smoking a pack a day. Once the person starts smoking a pack a day, it leads to health complications. How could tobacco be legal when it’s killing people? How could people smoke a couple of cigarettes a day and know that it is slowly killing them? Many television commercials will have actual people that have suffered from a serious health condition due to smoking tobacco. An advertising company (The Real Cost) created a commercial called “Your Skin”. In the commercial the girl is trying to buy a pack of cigarettes, she doesn’t have enough money so she peels off her own skin as if she’s risking her own life just to smoke. Some commercials would have people that either have cancer, have lost a body part, or speak with the microphone against a hole in their throat.
